Yousuf Karsh

I took this image using Ilford Delta 100 4×5 film on the monorail camera in the studio. I used 2 arri lights with the barn doors to shape the beam of the light. Because they were quite far away i had to have the shutter speed on 1/15 of a second to make sure the image didn’t get motion blur patrick had to stay very still.

I used the tungsten lighting to mimic the same conditions that Yoursuf Karsh used.

However if i used these lights again i would put them closer to the subject to allow for a smaller aperture to control the depth of field in the image. on my image the depth of field is too shallow and i think it detracts from the overall image. As a result you focus only on his eye which is in focus.
